More than 6 billion CFA francs to finance 118 sub-projects to restore the landscapes retained in the Niger's interior Delta and on the route of the Great Green Wall. The Convention was signed this Thursday as part of the project to restore degraded lands.
These programmes cover the Kayes, Koulikoro, Ségou, Mopti, Douentza, Nara, Nioro and Kita regions. They will restore degraded ecosystems, strengthen climate resilience and create more than 100,000 green jobs," says Madou Diallo, coordinator of the Degraded Lands Restoration Project.
He explains « The project aims to put people at the heart of action, their culture, their know-how and their natural environment ». And the coordinator to add « We plan to reach at least 2 million Malians ».
« A response to environmental challenges »
118 Community initiatives were selected for their relevance and potential impact. They affect areas such as agroforestry, sustainable land management, etc. With funding ranging from 6 million to 62 million francs per sub-project, this initiative is a concrete response to environmental challenges, says Kadia Diallo beneficiary.
« We are farmers. If we cultivated onion, after harvest, we could not find a market. But after the PRTD arrived, he told us to change our crops, so plant trees that will help us find food and sell those trees as well. », she says.
It should be noted that these sub-projects were selected following a call for projects that identified 1026 ideas in the 87 municipalities of the eight regions targeted by the Degraded Lands Restoration Project.
