Mopti, at the heart of environmental resilience!

On 13 February, Mopti, the Malian Venice, hosted the official launch of major works to strengthen its river and road infrastructure.

The ceremony was chaired by Ms Dombia Mariam Tangara, Minister of Environment, Sanitation and Sustainable Development, in the presence of Ms. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ms. Minister for the Advancement of Women, Children and Family, as well as the Governor of the Mopti region, Brigadier General Abbas Dembélé, the PRTD National Coordinator, Local Elected, traditional and religious leaders and pioneers of development, were all gathered, testifying to the importance of this initiative for riparian populations.

This initiative, led by the Degraded Land Restoration Project (PRTD-Mali) and funded by the World Bank, marks a major step forward for the region.

This work relates to:

the widening and upgrading of the road dam to Mopti Governorate;

Rehabilitating the ramp to dock pine trees and docking dock in Mopti;

dredging and curing of sediments on the way to the boat dock;

development of the water channel at the Konna fishing port.

This structuring project, essential to the city's resilience to floods and insecurity, marks a turning point for Mopti and its inhabitants. It reflects a strong commitment by the Malian government and its partners to sustainable and inclusive development.

With these modernised infrastructures, Mopti has the means to preserve its river heritage, boost its economy and improve the mobility of its people.
