As part of the study trip on productive alliances, the delegations of Mali, Niger and Tunisia visited the Marjanna cooperative in Ounagha (Morocco), which specializes in the processing of d'argan oil, a non-timber forest product emblematic of Morocco.
From tree to oil: exceptional craftsmanship. To extract the oil from the Argan, the women of the Marjanna cooperative all master the steps of the process, in a artisanal way: harvest, drying, manual removal of fruit, crushing of nuts by hand, roasting over low heat, then mixing and pressing at the mill. A careful work that not only values an emblematic product of Morocco, but also local know-how transmitted from generation to generation.
The visit made it possible to discover the entire value chain, with women at the heart of the productive process.
PRTD-Mali used this visit to share its experience in developing non-timber forest products.
PRTD-Mali intends to draw on good Moroccan practices in cooperative organisation, product labelling and market access strategies, with a view to strengthening local value chains and promoting an inclusive and sustainable model.
